KSI Update, June 2017

PHASE ONE WRAP UP
Petrarca Karetji, KSI Team Leader

June 2017 marks a major milestone for KSI, as it brings us to the end of Phase 1. As such, this is a special edition providing an infographic overview of the last four years.

Having only joined KSI last August, I must admit that looking over the infographics, I am amazed at what our key partners and the KSI team have achieved since 2013.

We all acknowledge that strengthening Indonesia’s knowledge sector is of critical importance to the ongoing development of the nation. The various results highlighted in this document demonstrate that Indonesia’s knowledge sector is making progress and gaining momentum.

I’d like to recognise and acknowledge the hard work, dedication, and commitment of both national and international partners in creating awareness, building capacity, and increasing engagement and partnerships across critical barriers in the knowledge sector. As we move to Phase 2, these are major assets for KSI to continue supporting and leveraging.

Through capacity, knowledge, networks and collaboration built in Phase 1, our areas of focus for Phase 2 have become much more clearly defined. Moving forward, KSI will focus on four key areas: 1) building research quality and communications for policy, 2) building on the enabling environment, to ensure more access to funds for research in Indonesia, 3) strengthening knowledge management, data and information flows between ministries and 4) promoting public participation and engagement on critical policy issues.

I truly hope this Phase 1 overview enthuses you as it did me, particularly when looking beyond the numbers and graphics and seeing the cooperation, intensity, and passion required to make so many things happen in a relatively short period. I hope it also invigorates all of us in anticipating and jointly tackling the challenges ahead.

Finally, huge thanks to the Poverty and Social Development Section, Australian Embassy, and the Deputy for Economic Development, BAPPENAS, for steering KSI Phase 1 to its completion.

Salam KSI!

Petrarca Karetji
Team Leader
