The Indonesian Academy of Sciences (Akademi Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia, AIPI) argues that criminal sanctions included in the Draft Law on the National System for Science and Technology (RUU Sisnas Iptek) are counterproductive to Indonesia’s efforts to promote international research collaboration and must be removed.
To promote better use of evidence in local policymaking, on 4 June the Knowledge Sector Initiative (KSI) hosted a seminar at the Aston Hotel, Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) to share knowledge on approaches and best practices.
As interaction strengthened among KSI’s PRIs, as well as between PRIs and policy makers in the KSI-supported Knowledge Community on village development issues, eight PRIs organised themselves into the ‘Village Study Forum’ or Forum Kajian Desa (April Monthly Update). This is an avenue for knowledge exchange and sharing research and analysis as evidence to inform policy-making processes. It is coordinated by AKATIGA for local economic development, IRE for village democratisation, and the Sajogyo Institute (SAINS) for socio-ecological impacts of rural development. The Forum Kajian Desa is a consolidated effort to jointly publish their critical thoughts.
As announced here IDForum2017 and partnering with government, the private sector and media powerhouses, KSI and Bappenas will turn KSI’s annual conference into the Indonesia Development Forum.

In an effort to support public policy formulation to accelerate disability-inclusive development in Indonesia, the SMERU Research Institute, with support from KSI, is conducting a preliminary desk study entitled, ‘Barriers to Disability-Inclusive Development in Indonesia’.
On 10 January 2017, the Centre for Political Studies at the University of Indonesia (Puskapol UI) held a book launch and public seminar on research in excellence. The book was a social history of the last ten years of Puskapol, written by the Puskapol leadership. Speakers at the seminar were Sri Budi Eko Wardani (outgoing Puskapol director), Daniel Dhakidae (editor Prisma), Ruth Indiah Rahayu (director INKRISPENA) and Hans Antlov (KSI). The discussion was moderated by Kharisma Nugroho.

Indonesia has been strengthening its capacity in policy analysis and research in the new era of public sector reform.
