Seminar Knowledge Sharing on Evidence-Based Public Policy
On 31 January 2017, Komite Pemantauan Pelaksanaan Otonomi Daerah (KPPOD), with support from KSI, organised a media discussion to disseminate the findings of its latest study on Regional Economic Governance 2016, a ranking survey on 32 provincial capitals throughout Indonesia. Held in Jakarta, the event was well attended by some 50 participants from government, the media, NGOs and research. Ir R. Aryawan Soetiarso Poetro, the Director of the Regional Autonomy of Bappenas, Anton J. Supit, the Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) and Petrarca Karetji, a KSI Team Leader, also attended the event.
KSI organised a knowledge-sharing seminar on Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Perspectives in Research for Development, on the 7th of December 2016 at the Aryaduta Hotel, Jakarta.
During December, KSI organised three large events with different audiences highlighting the role of women in research and public policy: a knowledge sharing event on 7 December on Gender Equality and Social Inclusion in Research for Development, a talk show on 21 December on Women in Public Policy, and an expert discussion on 22 December on Gender Research in Universities.
Commemorating Mother’s Day, on 21 December 2016, in cooperation with the National Institute of Public Administration (LAN) and the Indonesian Association of Policy Analysts (AAKI), KSI organised a talk show on ‘The Role of Women in Public Policy in Indonesia’ along with the inauguration of new board members to the AAKI.
"A better understanding of what gender issues entail is the first step that Government agencies must take, otherwise it is not possible for them to create appropriate plans and activities to address gender issues and overcome problems related to them."
Strengthening gender and social inclusion in research and higher education will improve the quality of research and analysis. The program design of KSI seeks to mainstream gender into its overall work by integrating gender analysis into the production and use of research by the public sector, policy research institutes and civil society organisations.
KSI values the importance of incorporating Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) aspects into policy research communications.
For the first half of the event, speaker Fred Carden, a senior research governance specialist at RTI International, shared his experience of building a knowledge sector within Indonesia through the recently launched Knowledge Sector Initiative (KSI).
