KSI Supports Bappenas to Build Networkswith Researchers

In cooperation with Knowledge Sector Initiative (KSI), the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) conducted a Policy Research Forum in Jakarta on 20 December 2017.

The event was attended by several Bappenasdirectors and 18 research institutions representing a range of sectors and research areas.

The forum was conducted as a part of Bappenas' planning for the 2020-2024 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN).

"This is the first time Bappenas has held a forum like this. The forum gives us an opportunity to provide information to research organisations about the studies we are planning to do to inform the RPJMN," Ir. Subandi M.Sc, Bappenas’Deputy for Human Development, Society and Culture, said during his welcome speech.

In the forum, representatives from research institutions outlined their areas of expertise.Leonardo A.A Teguh Sambodo, Director for Industry, Tourism and Creative Economy explained thedevelopment policy cycle, the process for developing the RPJMN, and Bappenas’ plans for research and background studies.

"We want to encourage directorates in Bappenas to actively develop research agendas and plans and communicate these to the research community. We also hope that directorates can learn about the work of the research institutions,” Subandi said.“This will help build understanding about what research Bappenas needs, what expertise is available within research organisations, and develop networks for research collaboration.”

The forum closed with an interactive session in which Bappenas directorates and research organisations discussed research topics in more detail.
