On 15 September 2016, KSI facilitated an initial dinner meeting between several Echelon One officials representing two of KSI’s working groups: Bureaucratic Reform (BR) and Research and Higher Education (RHE). The discussions focused on updates and challenges to policy formulation and implementation of bureaucratic reform in their respective ministries. An important highlight was the debate around challenges in human resources policy and practices of researchers and lecturers in universities.

The meeting was hosted and chaired by Prof. Eko Prasojo, chairman of TI-RBN, an advisory body to VP on national BR agenda; and attended by Prof. Sofian Effendi, Head of KASN; Dwi Wahyu Atmaji, SesmenPANRB; Setiawan Wangsaatmaja, Deputy to Minister of MenPANRB; Sumarsono, DG Regional Autonomy, MoHA; Prof. Bunyamin, Director at Kemenristekdikti; Prof. Siti Zuhro from LIPI. Policy discourse on researchers/lecturers at university will be discussed in seminar in University Indonesia on 28 September 2016. 

Some highlights from this meeting, include:

  1. A national seminar will be held late September to push forward on the functional position of researchers, lecturers and policy analysts. 
  2. KSI will continue to support the National Bureaucratic Reform program, specifically for TIRBN - which will be implemented by UI-CSGAR. 
  3. One issue that was also highlighted is the carreer path of researchers in universities or higher education institutions.
