On 24 and 25 September 2016, AIPI convened its Annual General Assembly, attended by 38 AIPI members. Prof Hasjim Djalal and Prof Endang Sukara gave their inaugural presentations on maritime and biodiversity issues. The meeting discussed the draft bylaw of the Indonesian Young Academy of Sciences (ALMI) and decided on a change of leadership in DIPI/the Indonesian Science Fund. AIPI’s change management process and the draft White Paper on Science, Technology and Higher Education were presented and received positive feedback. One of AIPI’s members, Prof Dewi Fortuna Anwar, said AIPI needed strategic public communication through a series of workshops and focus group discussions with key agents to influence the national agenda on the discourse and sense of urgency of science, technology and higher education.
