This set of briefs summaries how policy units in four very different countries are embedded in government to evaluate policies and processes, drive social accountability, enhance performance management, and inform decision making with evidence:
In South Africa, the Department for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME) aims to make ministries more accountable and collaborative, to encourage better service delivery and planning, and to monitor and evaluate to impact of these policies on society.
The briefs look at how the units were first established and how they have evolved - including leadership, funding, staffing and recruitment, knowledge sharing and communications. They also highlight how each country is trying to build a demand for evidence.
